Addlestone
Central Addlestone is located in the district of Surrey. This neighbourhood area is located close to Row Town, Ottershaw and Weybridge. The area is located just inside the London Orbital Motorway, also known as the M25. Unlike inner city London being close to London’s Green belt means that lush open spaces are abundant. The neighbourhood boasts plenty of farmland, parks and nature reserves which residents and tourists come to enjoy.
Addlestone has been previously known by various names such as “Attel’s Denu,” meaning the valley belonging to Attel. Addlestone has long been a rural town with an agricultural economy. However, after the railway arrived in the 19th century, this neighbourhood really expanded. Politically, Addlestone had historically been a part of Chertsey’s administrative parish. Later on, in 1997, the neighbourhood became a part of Runnymede and Weybridge Parliamentary Constituency. Currently around 70% of Addlestone’s population are Christian, followed by over a quarter of residents who are Sikh.
Addlestone is considered to be the birthplace of British democracy. This title is because it is home to the original Magna Carta, which was written by King John.
Due to the neighbourhood’s close proximity to the M25, locals often complain of the high demand on this road. This demand often causes long traffic queues.
The recent large scale Bouygues and Runnymede Council-led regeneration project of Addlestone Town Centre has provided the area with a 100-bed Premier Inn alongside a 30,000 square ft food store, 200,000 square ft of retail space, an 8-screen cinema and 190 new apartments, and is part of the continued development of Addlestone. One upcoming residential project is that of Aviator Park near Addlestone Staion, which will consist of 154 new housing units.
