Ashley Green

Ashley Green is a village and civil parish in Buckinghamshire, nestled on the boundary with Hertfordshire, between the locales of Chesham and Berkhamsted. Today, it is a popular commuter zone for those travelling into London and nearby major urban hubs in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, as it maintains its village country feel whilst boasting its proximity to major transport links! Houses in the Ashley Green locale range from large detached character properties, semi-detached twentieth century housing, most with substantial garden land and acerage!

The earliest recorded settlement of Ashley Green is found in the nearby Whelpley Hill Camp, an early Iron Age or Medieval Hillfort. There has not been a substantial amount of archaeological work done in this area, and so the exact dates of this hillfort are unknown. There are several 17th century listed buildings in the Ashley Green locale, including the Eagle Pub, Sale’s Farm, Old Oak Farm, and St. John the Evangelist Church. St. John’s Church has been a Grade II listed property since 1984, and was constructed in 1873. It was built with local knapped black flint walling and Bath stone dressings, and in the Early English revival style, was listed due to its architectural and design importance.

Due to its local village character and pastoral landscape, development in the Ashley Green locale has often been slow and stagnant. However, the Chiltern and South Bucks Local Plan strategy has been identifying potential areas of development in this region that bridges the Chiltern district to South Buckinghamshire. Much of Ashley Green’s potential sites of development have been excluded from intial planning stages due to poor landscaping or proximity to the Chiltern Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and therefore the potential of developing sites in the Ashley Green area is slim compared to nearby localities.
