Brimsdown

Dominated by the wide-stretching Durants Park in the south, this residential neighbourhood area benefits from an all-encompassing greenery. With a moderate density of shops on both Hertford Road, residents do not have to sacrifice the convenience of city living in order to make a home in this neighbourhood. Relatively cheap house pricing makes this area a great location for first-time buyers, commuters, and new families.
The Innova Business Park in this neighbourhood area was built as a part of the refurbishment of old factories that were used for mass-production industries during the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally intended to be a solely commercial part of the Upper Lea Valley, consent was granted in the late 90’s to develop an office and industrial district which has since expanded to include residential, leisure, retail, and educational spaces. The area is now an integral part of both Enfield and London’s economy, accommodating key suppliers of Central London businesses.

This neighbourhood area was once home to the Earl of Beaconsfield and two-time Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Benjamin Disraeli. Disraeli still remains the only UK Prime Minister to have been of Jewish birth, and played a central role in the creation of the modern Conservative Party. Famous for his one-nation conservatism approach - also known as Tory Democracy. Disraeli was responsible for making the Conservatives the party most identified with the legacy of the British Empire, a now highly controversial standpoint in British politics.

Frequent delays along the train lines in this neighbourhood are a constant source of irritation to many commuters, and the council’s improvement works are set to take quite some time. Residents asserted that this was a “necessary price to pay” however, as their housing is significantly cheaper than the rest of London, and they are surrounded by greenery with easy access to the countryside.

A package of transport improvements hopes to increase neighbourhood commerce both inside and out, whilst preparing the area for the expansion of Crossrail 2 in the coming decade. The council is also developing the Lee Valley Heat Network, which will provide affordable sustainable energy and support for new and existing businesses, helping to promote sustainable growth within the neighbourhood at an affordable price. As a result private developers are currently taking significant interest in the area. The most notable of which is the Elements development by Countryside Properties which will comprise 993 new homes, transforming the existing 1960’s Alma Estate.
