Bushy Park

This neighbourhood is nestled in the northern part of idyllic suburban Teddington. Covering a good portion of the lush and wooded Bushy Park, residents are spoiled by the beauty of its gardens, waterways, and wildlife. After going for a jog or stroll through the park, locals especially enjoy stopping for a warm drink at The Pheasantry cafe. For those residents looking for something to do that’s a bit livelier, there’s also the Teddington Cricket Club, and NPL Sports Club. Even better - any match is more enjoyable when followed by a pint at Adelaide Pub. For those looking to soak in all of Teddington, on a daily basis, the area is rich in transport connections, with the South Western Railway servicing both the Teddington and Fulwell stations. Between all of this, and the gorgeous Victorian and Edwardian style single family homes, it’s no surprise that families have long been drawn to the neighbourhood.

It’s believed that Teddington began as a farmstead “called Tuda.” Throughout the middle ages, the neighbourhood grew into a village because of its proximity to the River Thames. Housing development was quite slow though. Eventually, in the 18th century, the high street became built up with quaint terraced houses and small shops. Once Teddington rail station was built in 1863 though, more middle-class houses began to be constructed. This led to a huge increase in the neighbourhood’s population. Later on, following WWII, offices and workshop space popped up in the area, in addition to more affordable council run flats.

Bushy Park served as a US air base during WWII. The base was referred to as Camp Griffiss, and ended up being the site where General Eisenhower planned the D-Day landings.

Though Bushy Park’s famous deer can and have proven dangerous, most residents don’t feel threatened as they walk through the park. The park has also published a statement, committing to figuring out how to better install signage throughout the park, and warn residents when deer are in their birthing season.

Investors are frequently looking for ways to develop more housing in the area. Howarth Homes recently completed a new scheme referred to as Teddington Gate. The development is a conversion of an existing landmark building to deliver 35 exceptional units comprising of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, set within a secure gated environment.
