West Drayton
Situated on the western border of London, this low-built London suburb features a wide range of spacious modern housing, with some ultra-modern flats in the northern section, and the odd Victorian building scattered throughout. The northern part of Station Road conjures a particularly quaint feeling of village life, where local barbers, bakers and cafes cluster closely together beneath Tudor-style housefronts. The area is well-connected to London through the TFL rail network, and residents are never more than a short walk from one of the area’s many green spaces or clusters of amenities. Bourne Farm Recreation Ground in the eastern part of this area is a popular site for sports activity and dog-walking, and two other large parks: Huntsmoor and Stockley are just a few minutes away via bus.
Being a relatively young area of London, Drayton Garden Village experienced a significant spike of development recently, with the construction of 770 modern flats in the northern part of the neighbourhood. Built between the energy company E-ON and Inland Homes, 773 homes were built, along with an 80-bed care home, a medical centre and four retail units, all of which feature low-carbon heating and excellent energy efficiency ratings.
Stockley Lake in the west part of this neighbourhood is a four-acre body of water teeming with fish and steep banks mean it is well-protected from the elements, enabling year-round fishing!
The recent Drayton Garden Village flat development in the northern section included a design cognisant of local wildlife, creating green connections and wilderness corridors throughout the development to enable the free movement of a range of current and future wildlife in the area.
The main downside to their neighbourhood area is it’s ‘betwixt and between’ status. It is neither urban nor rural, residing somewhere in the middle. This produces a lengthy commute for those living in the city, but does not quite afford the lifestyle of those in the countryside. For some however, this is the perfect blend for their lifestyle.
The Old Police Station, a brand-new development completed in 2018 features a number of different housing types, from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses. The opening of the Elizabeth Line, formerly known as Crossrail, and its platform in nearby West Drayton Station mean that, in the near future, Drayton Garden Village is set to be a highly desirable part of suburban London.
