East Acton

East Acton is an increasingly popular west London neighbourhood, with a wide variety of quality housing options. The suburban streets are lined with beautiful Victorian terraced homes as well as towers of brand new flats. Many families are drawn to the area for the great schools and wonderful outdoor spaces, such as Acton Park, Southfields Playing Fields, and Clayton Gardens. Kids especially love playing miniature golf at the newly opened Putt In the Park. For young professionals who have begun moving to area, there’s plenty for them to do as well. Locals love crowding into the Hurricane Room for a game of pool, while others can be found frequenting the many wonderful diverse eateries like Taiko Foods for sushi.

With all that the neighbourhood has going for it, it’s no surprise that more and more Londoners are considering the move! East Acton began to develop in the 13th century as an agricultural village. By the 17th century, one of the estates had been given to the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. With the Goldsmiths now in the area, they began to acquire more land and put up alms houses for their workers. It wasn’t until the 1920s though, that the area really became suburbanised, when homes were built to cater to middle-class professionals and civil servants. Today, many of the streets throughout this suburb reveal the area’s ties to the Goldsmiths-boasting names of many renowned workers.

Acton Park initially opened back in 1888 in order to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. An elm tree that was standing there at the opening of the park still exists today - having been transformed into a 28-foot carved Twilight Tree statue.

The busy Westway road cuts through this neighbourhood. Being a multi-lane-street, its traffic brings quite a lot of noise and pollution to the area. Even so, residents find that being so close has its benefits as well. For drivers, they have easy access to the convenient road.

Many housing developers are looking for ways to meet the demand for more homes in the neighbourhood. Vida, a luxury development completed in 2018, brought new flats to the area - all outfitted with state of the art appliances and finishings. A more recent development, Western Circus by Barratt Homes was completed in early 2022 and provides 364 high quality 1 & 2 bedroom apartments, communal gardens, a supermarket and space for a café or shop, all just a 5-minute walk away from East Acton station. The development’s popularity is soaring, with all 2-bedroom apartments already sold out.
