Hempstead Road & Langley Road

This part of Watford is noticeably more affluent than its bordering areas. Streets are not just lined with trees, but exhibit a serene wooded character. Many of the homes are large Tudor style houses, with large gated gardens, and this privacy has attracted wealthy families who are looking for an idyllic suburban alternative to inner London. When looking to get out into the community though, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors. Between the historic Cheslyn Gardens and Goodwood Recreation Ground, it’s easy to find things to do beyond the winding roads and side streets. While there might not be many pubs or eateries in the area, there are still some solid options. Locals love grabbing a pint at the Nascot Arms, or Indian food at Saffron House. With all that the neighbourhood has to offer, it’s no wonder that Watford is becoming a favourite amongst an increasing number of Londoners.

Locals love the neighbourhood’s small but beautiful Cheslyn House and Gardens. The gardens were once owned by Henry Colbeck, a famous architect, and his wife Daisy. Their gardens began to reflect a wide array of plants, brought back from travels across the globe. By 1965, their gardens had grown so large that the council agreed to run them in partnership with the Colbeck family. This partnership allowed for the gardens to grow even further - to 3.5 acres. Once the Colbecks passed away, the council acquired the entire site. Today, the park boats a pond, rock garden, and even an aviary.

At the northern corner of this neighbourhood sits part of Warner Brothers Studios. While the tours for the famous Harry Potter film sets begin on the other side of the A41, it’s not uncommon for wizarding fans from around the world to be found strolling through Watford’s shops and eateries after their tour.

This neighbourhood is bordered by the busy A41 road. Due its close proximity, the area can feel a bit loud and polluted at times. However, this is really only an issue in the northern part of the neighbourhood, and is useful for those who travel by car.

While there hasn’t been heavy housing construction in the area, there are still some developers beginning to pay closer attention to Watford. Developer Sewell Gardner just recently built the new Hempstead Court development in the neighbourhood. Although small, many were excited about these 9 luxury flats. Each flat has its own parking space and iron gate.
