Heston

The neighbourhood of Heston is nestled in the northern section of Hounslow. An extremely multicultural area, it’s home to a large population of south Asian Londoners. This diversity is reflected in the varied eatery choices lining New Heston Road. From Heston Fish Bar to Chung’s, there are numerous great and affordable options. Beyond the area’s food, families are especially attracted to Heston for its affordable post war flats and abundance of park space. Whether it’s playing football at Brentford FC, jogging through Heston Park or swimming laps at Heston Pool, there are plenty of ways to get some fresh air in the neighbourhood. Between all of this, its convenient local tube stations, and its close proximity to Heathrow Airport, Heston has become quite a comfortable suburban pocket of London.

Heston began as a small farming village, known specifically for its wheat. Development and growth didn’t really pick up in the area until after the First World War. The Heston Aerodrome was built, allowing for government officials, like Neville Chamberlain, to fly in and out of there during the Second World War. Once Heathrow airport was constructed in 1946, growth picked up even further in the area, as employees needed places to live. Today, many of the residents continue to work at Heathrow and the surrounding area.

Famous guitarist, Jimmy Page, was born in Heston. He’s most well known for being a founding member of the legendary rock band Led Zeppelin.

Being so close to Heathrow Airport, the neighbourhood can feel a bit noisy at times. Still, for many of the residents who work near the airport, the commute cannot be beat.

In recent years, developers have slowly begun to pay closer attention to Heston. Developer NFC Homes is aiming to begin works for their New Heston Road development, which will provide approximately 170 homes and a sense of community, including communal and private amenities, and shared facilities like play areas.
