North Moneyhill

This attractive slice of Rickmansworth is a residential suburb, which can be found in the Three Rivers district of Hertfordshire. Its skyline is notably flat as the majority of the area is made up of cosy post-war semi-detached houses. The great outdoors is right on their doorstep – namely the manmade lakeside walks along Bury Lake. Right on the far end of the Metropolitan line, nearby Rickmansworth tube station provides a handy little journey into the metropolis for those who require a commute. Lastly, Uxbridge road offers a small platter of amenities to utilise to your convenience. The large homes, ease of transport, and surprising number of local amenities, means that this increasingly popular neighbourhood is a favourite of commuting families.

The history of Rickmansworth dates all the way back to the 8th century, when King Offa took the land, which was then a manor of the Abbey of St Albans, or so legend has it. The name of Rickmansworth, often lovingly shortened to ‘Ricky’, comes from a delightful combo of the Saxon magnate “Ryckmer” and “Worth” which means farm. Through the centuries, the manor of Ricky was passed down from aristocrat to aristocrat, royal to royal. However, as the Industrial era loomed the area’s population expanded through the neighbourhood’s burgeoning watercress, silk weaving and fizzy drinks businesses.

Co-member of Wham!, Andrew Ridgeley once opened up a bar in Rickmansworth called “92”. Sadly, the spot burnt down and is now occupied by a Prezzo. It was a missed opportunity not to call the bar Club Tropicana!

The Metropolitan line has been grumbled about for some delays and unpredictability, particularly due to the fact that the station is in Zone 7. The line also doesn’t share the luxury of 24-hour services that more central locations do.

Rickmansworth, due to its small size, does not appear to have many large-scale projects on the books. The local council have supported plans to encourage cycling around the area to reduce congestion and improve local safety, as well as to supporting new business around the station. There is a waterfront luxury housing project, Elmswater by Berkeley Ground, that was recently completed near Rickmansworth station, just to the South East, that will most likely cater to 48 wealthy commuters.
