Parsons Green
Parsons Green is a quaint west London neighbourhood with a tight knit suburban feel. Centred around the eponymous small park - Parsons Green - the area draws in many families and young professionals in search of a break from the hustle and bustle of central London. For those commuting, the City is easily reached on the tube via Parsons Green station. When not rushing to work though, locals can be found lounging around their beautiful Victorian terraced houses, or enjoying any of the wonderful perks of the neighbourhood. Younger residents love the indoor rock climbing course at The Climbing Hangar, and those slightly older often follow their workouts up with a round of pints at The White Horse or The Brown Cow. If stopping by on a weekend, you’ll surely find residents packed into Hally’s Ltd enjoying a California style brunch or enjoying a gourmet dinner at Boma Green. Even if not considering making the move to Parsons Green, it’s surely worth a visit!
Back in 1424, locals referred to this area as Parsons Green for the clump of trees on its west side. It was an extremely small settlement though. Even during the 17th century, only about 16 families lived in the neighbourhood. Throughout the 18th century, wealthy Londoners began to build their country retreats in the area. Once the railway arrived in 1880, more suburban style dwellings were erected, like the grid of terraced houses. This led to the area’s growth into a working-class suburb. Since then though, it has become a more middle-class, family-oriented neighbourhood.
The Fulham Pottery Kiln dates back to 1671 when John Dwight set up business there. He sold porcelain and stoneware, much of which is now on display at the British Museum.
Parsons Green station was the site of a bombing attempt in 2017. While this was shocking for the local community and for the whole of London, there were luckily no fatalities.
London Square recently completed a new development in the neighbourhood. New Kings Road, an exclusive boutique development, delivered 22 new 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and two penthouses to the area. This development is but one example of the development trend that the area is currently experiencing, with more (especially luxury) offerings placed on the market.
