Sands End

This area is a recently regenerated and now highly coveted pocket of West London. With its idyllic location just along the Thames, the locality draws in mostly wealthy Londoners looking for spacious modern luxury apartments with maximum privacy. Even for those who can’t afford to live in this rather exclusive neighbourhood, it’s surely worth a visit. Easily accessible via the Overground at Imperial Wharf station, once here, you’ll definitely want to explore the beautifully landscaped Imperial Park, and go for a stroll around Chelsea Harbour. Londoners from all over the city often come by to enjoy the food at the highly rated Santa Maria Pizzeria, and try out different interesting cocktails at The Jam Tree. Locals also love that there’s so much to do in the neighbourhood. When not enjoying the amenities in their high-rise blocks of flats, you can often find them checking out a new show at Roca London Gallery or catching up over flat whites at Harris + Hoole.

Imperial Wharf began to really develop back in 1824, when the Imperial Gas Light and Coke Company acquired the Standford manor house estate that stood there. This acquisition allowed them to begin the production of gas on site and grow into London’s leading gas company. As the company expanded through the 1800s, it overtook more and more of the neighbouring market garden areas. Throughout the end of the 19th century, the companies employed mostly Germans, which allowed them to get around the wage demands by local Londoners. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the gasworks closed, paving the way for the area’s regeneration. Over the past few decades, property developers, St George, have worked on constructing luxury flats, shops, eateries and new parkland. With the area’s access via the London Overground as of 2009, it’s become a high-end desirable place to live.

Famous actor, Michael Caine, lives in the neighbourhood. He’s most well-known for his roles in The Italian Job as well as multiple Batman films.

Unfortunately, with the area’s prime location by the river and growing popularity, the housing prices have become quite expensive. For celebrities and wealthy Londoners in the area, they find that the high prices help maintain the neighbourhood’s exclusivity, but this also means that the neighbourhood misses out on the diversity that makes other areas of London so special.

River Homes recently completed the new Imperial Wharf development. A luxury complex, it brings new townhouses and terraced apartments to the area. Residents benefit from a 24-hour concierge, private gym, and underfloor heating. Forming part of Fulham’s wider regeneration plan, it was announced that the now defunct Fulham Gasworks would be regenerated as a mixed-use high quality design development. Beginning in 2015, the scheme intends to deliver up to 1,843 new homes, including up to 646 “affordable homes”, across 15 new buildings, spanning up to 37-storeys in height. The regeneration of the site also incorporates a range of retail and public spaces, as well as offering employment opportunities for the local community. The regeneration of the site also incorporates a range of retail and public spaces, as well as offering employment opportunities for the local community.
