Sevenoaks East

The northeasterly edge of Sevenoaks, nestled between the rolling pastoral countryside of Kent and the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve, combines idyllic scenery and unique character properties whilst attached to a vital London commuter network. The northern edge of Sevenoaks is home to many smaller networks of villages and civil parishes that make up the periphery of the town; including Dunton Green, Riverhead, and Chipstead. With its blend of village life and urban connectivity, the eastern portion of Sevenoaks is an ideal location for those wishing for the best of both worlds!

Whilst Sevenoaks itself was not recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book for William the Conquerer, many of the small surrounding villages and parishes were indeed part of the written record. One of these was Riverhead; which was featured as part of the Codsheath Hundred of Kent. Sevenoaks as a settlement grew from the confluence of two main roads from London to Dartford in the 1200s, and many of these small villages grew with the growing numbers of pilgrims passing through the region from London to Winchester. The Sevenoaks town was not officially recorded until the 13th century; with the advent of the market being hosted in the settlement - which capitalised on the numbers of pilgrims and travellers making their way through the area. Sevenoaks still remains a market town to this day!

Underneath Dunton Green and north of the centre of Sevenoaks, is the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve. A 73 hectare conservation area and reserve featuring ponds, marshlands and an abundance of wildlife - this reserve was constructed in 1956 out of gravel pits! The site is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest; owing to their unique bird-breeding and landscapes!

Although many of the locales to the northeast of Sevenoaks are indeed villages and civil parishes; the Sevenoaks District Council considers these villages, particularly Dunton Green and Riverhead, to be part of the urban area of Sevenoaks. Therefore, developments have been focused in these areas. Sevenoaks Council are currently constructing proposals for their next development plan - with an estimated 10,000 new homes to be built throughout the Sevenoaks district!
