Sevenoaks North
Underneath the Bat & Ball station, to the northern edge of Sevenoaks, sits the suburban spread of the Sevenoaks Town. With a wide variety of properties with distinct characters and designs; from apartments to detached homes and bungalows - the northern edge of Sevenoaks presents a diverse fabric of the suburban built environment. Nestled adjacent to the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve also; this area benefits from its urban connectivity and proximity to the wonderful greenspaces of Kent.
Bat & Ball Station was the first railway station to be built in the Sevenoaks locale; pre-dating the eponymous station by four years. It was built in 1862 out of a Victorian property and was even used by Queen Victoria when visting the grand Knole House estate. The surrounding area of the Bat & Ball Station grew exponentially from the station; with goods and coal yards being constructed in the vicinity. Although pre-dating the Sevenoaks Station, the Bat & Ball was originally named ‘Sevenoaks’, and was changed in the 1950s to match the name of a local pub. This history has led the immediate locale to become the main suburban enclave of Sevenoaks - featuring many schools, the town’s biggest hospital, and the St John’s Church.
Nestled between the two main rail stations both serviced by Thameslink rail, this area has been a much sought after locale in Sevenoaks for some years - owing to its proximity to both the rolling pastoral landscapes and the short commute to London. Therefore, the housing market in the area has often suffered from constraints and is the most densely suburbanised within Sevenoaks. This suburbanisation however does mean that the northern portion of Sevenoaks has the most variety of housing stock throughout most of the town. However, in 2023, the Sevenoaks District Council approved a massive scale development in northern Sevenoaks on the disused Sevenoaks Quarry. This development is aiming to provide 950 new mixed-use and mixed-affordability properties to Sevenoaks, and may increase the population by 10%!
