Woodford Green

Woodford Green is an apt name for this area that is situated along the River Roding, considering the plethora of greenery that surrounds the neighbourhood. A move to this area would also give you a reason to work on your green fingers, because the majority of the homes are pleasant detached and semi-detached houses with their own patches of garden! It’s a perfect place to prune and raise a family, particularly due to the good schools around the area. If the good life gets a little too good, a jump into the M11 can get you into London or towards Stanstead airport in a jiffy.

The glorious history of Woodford has many beginnings. Some say it starts in the Neolithic times, where evidence suggests early humans lived by the bank of the River Roding – using the water source for sustenance. The more industrially-inclined, however, would argue that it actually starts in the mid-1800s, when the Victorian railway connected up the spot to London, spurring its residential reincarnation. Gradually as the 19th century steamed ahead, the area because increasingly wealthy as traders from the city moved to get a slice of the quiet life away from the city.

British band Bloc Party’s member Kele Okereke grew up around Woodford for a while in his youth. It was then that he met with fellow bandmate Russell Lissack at 16 years old and eventually started the band.

There’s not really much of a high street along Broadmead Road, which means there is a slight lack of convenient amenities. On the other hand, this probably isn’t much of a problem for residents, who most likely have cars to make use of their driveways.

Because of all the green and historical value around this neighbourhood, Redbridge Borough Council have vowed to protect the area as part of the area’s green belt and conservation area. This means that there are no big plans for any changes in the next few years and Woodford Green can continue on to be as idyllically intact as it pleases. The lack of new development has meant that house prices here appear reasonable in comparison to many other parts of London. One local news provider recently emphasised this point boasting that a 3-bed maisonette was recently sold in the area for just £275,000.
