DM05: Tall Buildings

Tall buildings outside the strategic locations identified in the Core Strategy will not be considered acceptable. Proposals for tall buildings will need to demonstrate:

  1. an active street frontage where appropriate
  2. successful integration into the existing urban fabric
  3. a regard to topography and no adverse impact on Local Viewing Corridors, local views and the skyline
  4. not cause harm to heritage assets and their setting
  5. that the potential microclimatic effect does not adversely affect existing levels of comfort in the public realm.

Proposals for redevelopment or refurbishment of existing tall buildings will be required to make a positive contribution to the townscape.
