DM07: Protecting Housing in Barnet

Loss of residential accommodation will not be permitted unless:

  • the proposed use is for a local facility (children’s nursery, educational or health use) provided that it is not detrimental to residential amenity and;
  • where need can be demonstrated and;
  • the demand for the proposed use cannot adequately be met elsewhere and is in line with other policies

or;

  • the location is no longer environmentally suitable and viable for residential use

or;

  • it involves identified regeneration areas with large scale demolition of housing and estates which provides for the net replacement of the total residential units.
