DP3: Providing housing for older people
- Proposals for new specialist housing for older people will be supported where:
- there is a continued need in the borough, having regard to part 3 of Policy SP2, for the tenure and type of accommodation proposed;
- standards of HAPPI have been considered, and implemented where appropriate, to ensure the scheme is suitable for the intended occupants; and
- the scheme is sustainably located near public transport, shops, local services, community facilities and social networks for residents, carers and visitors.
- Proposals for residential care establishments that fall under use class C2 will need to demonstrate that they would provide levels of care as defined in Article 2 of the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 or any subsequent amendments.
- Any loss of specialist housing for older people will be resisted except where the applicant can demonstrate that there is no longer an established need in the borough.
- Specialist housing for older people will be expected to provide an affordable housing contribution in line with policy requirements.
