DP4: Gypsy and traveller accommodation
- Bexley’s existing provision for Gypsy and Traveller Sites, listed below and defined on the Policies Map, will be protected, while demand exists.
- The following considerations should be taken into account in the determination of locations for future Gypsy and Traveller Sites:
- complying with the requirements of other relevant policies, including policies that seek to protect designated areas, such as Metropolitan Green Belt, from inappropriate development;
- avoiding areas of flood risk (Environment Agency Flood Zones 2 and 3), as caravans are considered highly vulnerable to the risks of flooding; and c. ensuring there are no significant adverse impacts on the locality including:
- the character and appearance of the site and surrounding area;
- the residential amenity of neighbouring properties; and
- the local highway network.
- Any proposal for a new site, or intensification or extension of an existing site, should:
- provide suitable access to local services and facilities and public transport links; and,
- be of suitable environmental quality (such as noise and air quality) to not unduly affect the amenity and health and wellbeing of potential residents.
- Proposed improvements to existing pitches and sites will be supported, where appropriate
