LP 52: Advertisements and Shop Fronts.

Advertisements will be permitted where they have no unacceptable impact, taking account of cumulative impacts, on:

  • public safety, including highway safety; and;
  • amenity, including visual amenity, the amenity of neighbouring sites; and;
  • the significance of the historic environment.

New or altered shop fronts will be permitted where:

  • alterations/lighting have regard to the character, materials, design, scale and proportion of the building;
  • important architectural or historic features on the existing building are restored and/or retained and not concealed;
  • an active frontage is maintained; and,
  • security measures are well designed and integrated with the frontage. There will be a presumption against visually intrusive measures, such as external roller shutters.
