HP06: Standards for New Housing

Internal Residential Space

All new build housing will achieve appropriate internal space through compliance with the nationally-described space standard as summarised in Figure 6.3 or as may be superseded.

External Residential Space

New residential units will be expected to have direct access to an area of private and/or communal amenity space. The form of amenity space will be dependent on the form of housing and could be provided in a variety of ways, such as a private garden, roof garden, communal garden, courtyard balcony, or ground-level patio with defensible space from public access. In providing appropriate amenity space, development proposals should be designed to provide amenity space of a shape, size and location to allow effective and practical use of and level access to the space by residents.
