HE1: General Strategy for the Historic Environment

  1. The Council will seek to ensure that development not only avoids harm, but also improves the setting of Broxbourne’s historic environment, and better reveals the significance of heritage assets.
  2. To achieve this, the Council will:
    • carry out a borough-wide characterisation study;
    • investigate the use of Article 4 Directions in conservation areas;
    • improve signage relating to heritage assets, and
    • seek to increase public access to the historic environment and heritage assets where-ever possible.
    • prepare or update Conservation Area Character Appraisals; and
    • review the potential for new Conservation Areas.
  3. Development proposals must have regard to the Broxbourne Historic Environment Strategy Supplementary Planning Document, once adopted.
