BGI 3 Lighting

External lighting within development sites should have no significant impact on wildlife or local amenity. This means:

  1. avoiding short wavelength (cool white / blue spectrum) lighting;
  2. acoiding large expanses of glazing at the rear of properties, such as conservatories at first-floor level and above and glazed summerhouses sited in rear garden tree corridors;
  3. providing focused lighting and avoiding wide or dispersed floodlighting and
  4. avoiding lighting of trees, hedges and other areas of high potential for biodiversity.
