- Development proposals, where appropriate, should:
- include measures to protect and assist in the restoration of Hampstead’s tree lines and biodiversity corridors, reducing the incidence of breaks and the length of gaps;
- where possible, consider ways to improve connectivity in Network Priority Areas (refer to Map 5 above) between the Biodiversity Corridors;
- improve networking of biodiversity and tree lines linking to green areas outside the Plan, identified by Map 5;
- establish the quality of the existing biodiversity through relevant ecological appraisal and species surveys. Applicants should show in their proposals how they plan to enhance both biodiversity and habitats.
- Trees should only be removed if there is strong justification.
- Acceptable garden buildings should be constructed on piled foundations or point supports (i.e., not reinforced concrete slab foundations).
