C1: Heritage

Planning applications which will result in any harm to the significance of heritage assets (designated and non-designated) must consider the scale of the harm and the impact on the significance of the heritage asset. When determining such development proposals, they will be assessed against the relevant criteria in the NPPF and Local Plan.

Proposals will be expected to submit a heritage statement that sets this information out clearly in a proportionate way.

Proposals that preserve those elements of the setting of a heritage asset that make a positive contribution to the heritage asset will be treated favourably.

Where applicable, development proposals affecting a site with potential archaeological interest shall be accompanied by an archaeological deskbased survey and, where applicable, a field evaluation. Development proposals should demonstrate that they have considered the potential impact on above and below ground archaeology and identify mitigation strategies to ensure that evidence of past environments is not lost.
