TM2: Vehicles and Parking
Development schemes will be supported in this context that:
- Show regard to the car parking standards set out in the Central Bedfordshire Council’s Design Guide and Parking Strategy, ensuring that new dwellings in developments have the recommended number of off-street car parking spaces as specified in CBC’s Design Guide, and LNP Policy PD4 (Car Parking) as supported by the LNP Design Guide.
- Encourage the use of electric vehicles in a response to the Climate Emergency, by the installation of electric vehicle charging points in each new dwelling, as specified in the Central Bedfordshire Sustainability Plan 2020-2030 and CBC Electric Vehicle Guidance for New Development Supplementary Planning Document.
- Incorporate appropriate traffic calming measures (as necessary). They must not impede water flow within the urban drainage system. They should also give regard to the impact on flood risk and flood risk management arrangements, such as highway drainage and road side ditches, ensuring the works are complimentary to these and prioritise betterment of water management to the existing arrangements to reduce the risk this poses to the existing community. This is especially the case for High & Church Streets and also applies to areas of proposed new parking.
- Include measures to protect children around parking areas, access routes, barriers, pavements, crossings etc.
