HE6: Sutton Conservation Area

(a) Development within the Sutton Conservation Area and its setting must preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the conservation area, taking account of its significance and including the following aspects of that character and appearance:

  • the predominant two-storey residential character of the area, with some properties having taller chimneys;
  • the variation in the setback of properties, with rear-of-the-pavement frontages and frontages set back behind shallow or longer front gardens;
  • the mix of trees, hedges, sandstone and brick walls as boundary treatments;
  • the mix of traditional materials and the architectural diversity of the area.

(b) Within or adjacent to the conservation area, traditional materials should normally be used, to complement the existing palette of materials.
