CS 20: Gypsies and Travellers
The Council will work with Kent authorities to agree a sub-regional distribution of traveller and travelling showpersons pitches. In identifying sites to meet an agreed requirement, the Council will take into account:
- Impact of proposed pitch provision on adjacent residential communities;
- Accessibility of a proposed location to educational, health, community facilities and public transport;
- Protection of the openness of the Green Belt;
- The availability and delivery of sites;
- Other planning constraints, including flood risk.
The Council will provide four additional pitches to meet the needs of existing households on the Council-owned Claywood Lane traveller and gypsy site.
Potential for additional pitches will be explored on or as extensions to existing sites as well as in new locations, subject to potential sites meeting the criteria above and addressing the needs of the gypsy community.
The Council will produce an Implementation Strategy for the delivery of identified sites.
