DM9 - Social and community facilities

New development for social and community facilities13 will be encouraged provided that:

  • It meets identified local need,
  • The site is in a sustainable location that is safe and accessible to the local community,
  • It will accord with the character and amenity of the area, particularly in residential areas,
  • It achieves a high quality design that allows for flexible use and provides inclusive access for all, and
  • The level of parking provision and the effects on traffic movement and highway safety are acceptable.

The Council will support mixed-use, shared, flexible and adaptable buildings and spaces that meet the needs of the community, subject to the above provisions, and will encourage collaboration between service providers, the community and key partners.
