ST7 New roads and extensions or improvements to existing roads
The Council expects schemes for new roads or for extensions and improvements to existing roads to satisfy the following criteria:
- minimal environmental impact on sensitive areas (including open countryside and its management, sites of wildlife and built heritage interest, and residential areas) with adequate compensatory measures in those cases where environmental losses are unavoidable;
- minimal adverse impact on road safety and traffic congestion;
- minimal disruption to, or realignment of, the rights of way network;
- retention of a defensible green boundary and minimal loss of Green Belt land.
