DM 27 Working from Home
Where planning permission is required it will be granted for a business to operate from a residential property which remains in residential use provided that:
- the proposal would not cause serious harm to the living conditions of adjoining properties by reason of the nature of the activity, and incorporates appropriate noise attenuation measures where late working or the operation of machinery is involved;
- the proposal would not involve alterations to the property (such as extensions and fire escapes) which would substantially alter its residential character, cause serious harm to the living conditions of adjacent occupiers, or cause serious harm to the character and appearance of the surrounding area;
- the proposal would not be prejudicial to highway safety and efficiency by reason of deliveries or of car parking by staff, suppliers or customers;
- adequate access and parking can be provided without introduction of new vehicular movement into the rear curtilage.
