DM53: Hotels and Visitor Accommodation
- Hotels and other visitor accommodation are generally appropriate in locations within an existing town centre or at a location well served by public transport.
- In these locations proposals for new hotel and visitor accommodation will only be supported where they:
- Do not result in adverse impacts on residential amenity, including cumulative impacts;
- Do not result in the loss of housing;
- Provide appropriate arrangements for pick up / drop off, service delivery vehicles and coaches, appropriate to the size of the hotel or visitor accommodation;
- Provide an adequate standard of amenity for occupants;
- Are inclusive, providing at least 10% of all hotel rooms to wheelchair accessible standards (the 10% wheelchair accessible standard rooms must be fully fitted from occupation);
- Are not permanently occupied;
- Where appropriate, incorporate ancillary facilities which are open for public use and create employment opportunities for local residents, such as restaurants, gyms and conference facilities; and
- Where appropriate, create active frontages on the ground floor.
