DM 22: Trees and Landscaping

The removal of trees subject to TPOs or assessed as being of significant amenity value will only be considered acceptable where it can be demonstrated that the loss of the tree(s) is outweighed by the wider public benefits of the proposal.

Development proposals will be required to include hard and soft landscaping that:

  • Is appropriate to the character of the area;
  • Is well laid out in terms of access, car parking and the living conditions of future occupiers and neighbours;
  • Achieves a suitable visual setting for the building(s);
  • Provides for sufficient space for new or existing trees and planting to grow; and
  • Supports biodiversity.

.Proposals for works to trees in conservation areas and those the subject of tree preservation orders will be permitted where the works do not risk compromising the amenity value or survival of the tree.

The Council will require trees identified for retention to be protected during construction and to be retained or replaced where necessary following the completion of the development.
