DM 29: Sheltered Housing, Care Homes and Extra Care Housing

The Council will support proposals on previously-developed land for sheltered housing, care homes and extra care housing (across all tenures) for older people and those who may be vulnerable, provided that the proposal is accessible by public transport with good access to local amenities including shops and community facilities.

The loss of care homes or sheltered housing will only be supported where it can be reasonably demonstrated there is no longer a demand for that use on the site.
