Proposals for new hotel development outside of the Harrow & Wealdstone Intensification Area will be directed to sites in accordance with the following sequential order of preference:
- town centres;
- edge of centre;
- areas with a high public transport accessibility level.
Proposals for guest houses and bed & breakfast accommodation will be permitted provided that:
- the size and character of the site or building are suitable for the proposed use;
- the development will be compatible with the character and appearance of the area;
- the residential amenities of local residents will not be harmed by way of noise, disturbance, loss of light or privacy;
- where practical, the building will be wheelchair accessible;
- it would not result in an over-concentration of the type of accommodation within the locality;
- there will be good access and links or opportunities for good access and links to modes of transport other than the private vehicle; and
- vehicle access to and from the highway will be safe.
The Council will encourage the development and improvement of tourist related attractions and facilities, provided there is no unacceptable impact on the environment or residential amenity.
