DM 46: New Community, Sport and Education Facilities
Proposals for the refurbishment and re-use of existing premises for community, sport and educational facilities will be supported.
Proposals for the provision of new community, sport and educational facilities will be supported where:
- they are located within the community that they are intended to serve;
- subject to (a) they are safe and located in an area of good public transport accessibility or in town centres; and
- there would be no adverse impact on residential amenity (see Policy DM1) or highway safety.
New education and indoor sport development should make provision for community access to the facilities provided.
Proposals for the conversion of employment floorspace to community and educational uses will be considered having regard to:
- the principle of the loss of employment floorspace space in accordance with Policy DM31: Supporting Economic Activities and Development & DM32: Office Development;
- the impact of the use upon on other legitimate uses within the building and neighbouring buildings; and
- the adequacy of parking and access arrangements.
Proposals that would compromise any component of this policy will be refused.
