H9 Supported Housing

  • The Council will support the provision of new supported housing where:
    1. it meets an identified need, including larger-than-local need;
    2. it is suitable for the intended occupiers in terms of the standard of facilities and the level of independence, and provides the necessary level of supervision, management and care/support. Regard must be had to Policy H4 and any best practice standards that the Council considers relevant and which are related to the specific type of accommodation and the people/groups it is targeted to; and
    3. there is easy access to public transport, shops, services and community facilities appropriate to the needs of the intended occupiers.
  • The Council will resist the loss of supported housing unless:
    1. adequate replacement accommodation of the same quality and quantity will be provided for the particular group;
    2. it can be demonstrated that the accommodation is no longer needed for the particular group or other relevant groups in need of supported housing; or
    3. it can be demonstrated that the accommodation is not fit for purpose for its current use or other relevant types of supported housing.
