CE6 Noise and Vibration

The Council will carefully control the impact of noise and vibration generating sources which affect amenity both during the construction and operational phases of development. The Council will require new noise and vibration sensitive developments to mitigate and protect occupiers against existing sources of noise and vibration.

To deliver this the Council will:

  • require that noise and vibration sensitive development is located in the most appropriate location and, wherever located, is protected against existing sources of noise and vibration, through careful design, layout and use of materials to ensure adequate insulation from sound and vibration;
  • resist developments which fail to meet adopted local noise and vibration standards;
  • resist all applications for noise and vibration generating development and plant that would have an unacceptable noise and vibration impact on surrounding amenity;
  • require that development protects, respects and enhances the special significance of the borough’s tranquil areas.
