7 Climate change and adapting to the effects
The Council will adopt a partnership approach to implement the principles of ‘avoidance, mitigation and adaptation’ to reduce Lewisham’s CO2 emissions. This will be achieved by:
- raising awareness of climate change issues to promote and incentivise sustainable methods of living and working across the borough
- promoting the sustainable and efficient use of land and improving the integration of land use and transport in accordance with national and regional requirements
- applying the London Plan policies relevant to climate change including those related to: air quality, energy efficiency, sustainable design and construction, retrofitting, decentralised energy works, renewable energy, innovative energy technologies, overheating and cooling, urban greening, and living roofs and walls
- recognising the role that the reuse and modification, where appropriate, of heritage assets can play in securing sustainable development in order to reduce carbon emissions.
