BNE4 Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency measures will be sought within development proposals, providing there is no detrimental impact on amenity. In particular, proposals should have regard to:

  1. appropriate siting, form, orientation and layout of the buildings and the appropriate size and location of windows to maximise passive solar heating, natural lighting and natural ventilation; and
  2. the appropriate use and siting of soft landscaping to act as shading or shelterbelts; and
  3. energy efficient technology including solar panels, combined heat and power/district heating schemes and district wind power schemes; and
  4. high standards of insulation and other heat retaining features; and
  5. the use of building materials of the lowest possible embodied energy,

except where there is an overriding need to avoid damage to the architectural or historic interest of Listed Buildings and buildings in Conservation Areas.
