SL28: Playing Pitches
The Council will not permit the loss or displacement of existing playing pitches and/or playing fields to other uses unless it can be demonstrated, through up-to-date and robust evidence, that:
- There is a proven surplus of provision and the site is no longer needed, or is unlikely to be required over the lifetime of the plan; or
- The benefit of the proposed development to the community, with regard to sport, health and wellbeing outweighs the harm caused by the loss of the facility; or
- A replacement playing pitch of an equal quantity and quality or higher standard will be provided in at least an equally convenient and accessible location to serve the same local community to be guided by the Council’s Playing Pitch Strategy. In exceptional circumstances, where it has been demonstrated that on site provision is not feasible or viable, off site financial contributions may be considered acceptable.
Provision and enhancement of outdoor sports pitch requirements (grass and artificial) will be guided by the Council’s Playing Pitch Strategy.
