Proposals for extensions to existing dwelling houses will only be permitted if all of the following criteria are met:

  • there is no significant adverse impact on the amenity of adjoining occupiers;
  • they are of a high quality of design and use materials which are in keeping with both the existing property and the identifiable character of the surrounding area;
  • they respect existing building lines and there is no significant adverse impact on the existing street scene or other public vantage points;
  • appropriate parking arrangements are provided in line with the aims of the integrated transport strategy;
  • an appropriate level of rear garden amenity space is maintained.

In exceptional circumstances, a relaxation of normal standards may be allowed to meet any special medical needs of family members.
