P48 Hot food takeaways

New hot food takeaways will only be permitted where:

  • The number of hot food takeaway premises are not more than 5% of the total number of units in the protected shopping frontage; and
  • The concentration of hot food takeaway premises would not be above 1 per 21 premises (10 on either side of the proposal); and
  • The proposed location is further than 400 metres from any existing or proposed primary or secondary school’s boundary; and
  • Grease traps are installed to prevent the build-up of food deposits in sewers and drains; and
  • Within the takeaway, the kitchen extraction system is designed to control cooking odours, where the discharge stack is installed in accordance with the following hierarchy:
    • Not less than one metre above the roof ridge of any building within 20 metres of the building where the commercial kitchen is located;
    • Not less than one metre above the roof eaves or dormer window of the building where the commercial kitchen is located, supported by additional odour control measures;
    • An exceptionally high level of odour control measure, where low level discharge should be avoided.
