P55 Parking standards for disabled people and the physically impaired
- Development must:
- Provide accessible car parking spaces up to a maximum of one car parking space per wheelchair accessible unit. The number of spaces provided may be determined by considering:
- The anticipated demand for the parking space and tenure of the development; and
- The quality and accessibility of the local public transport network and the access to local amenities.
- Ensure that car parking spaces that are provided for disabled people and the physically impaired:
- Are located within the development and in close proximity to the nearest entrance or lift core; and
- Allow sufficient space to access the vehicle from both sides and at the rear of the vehicle; and
- Have entrance ramps that are the correct gradient to accommodate higher vehicles when parking is underground; and
- Enable easy manoeuvrability into and out of the space provided; and
- Remain designated for people with disabilities or mobility impairments in perpetuity. Any spaces that remain unused must not be returned to the general car parking pool.
