MC11 Mineral extraction outside preferred areas

Applications for mineral working outside the preferred areas identified in the plan, including land within areas of search, will only be permitted if it can be demonstrated that:

  • it is necessary to maintain an adequate landbank in situations where land in preferred areas has not come forward for mineral working; or
  • the proposal is for an extension to an existing site where the mineral would be sterilised if planning permission were not granted; or
  • the proposal is for the working of minerals for bulk fill, sub-base or granular fill where there is a proven need that cannot be met by use of low grade recycled or secondary aggregate.
