NE3 Impact of Development on Biodiversity
Development that would adversely affect biodiversity or the value of wildlife habitats across the Borough will only be permitted if appropriate mitigation and/or compensation measures are provided which would result in overall enhancement.
Proposals for development must make provision for the retention of the habitat and protection of its wildlife links. Opportunities to maximise the creation of new corridors and improve permeability and ecological conservation value will be sought.
Where development is permitted the Council will impose conditions, where necessary and appropriate, and/or planning obligations will be sought, subject to all of the following criteria;
- minimising disturbance;
- protecting and enhancing the site’s ecological conservation value and extent;
- contributing towards the objectives of the Kent Biodiversity Action Plan;
- ensuring appropriate management and monitoring; and
- if damage to or loss of the site is unavoidable, creating new or replacement habitats of enhanced ecological value and extent in order to reinforce the Green Infrastructure Network as illustrated on the Diagram.
