SQ5 Water Supply and Quality

All development will be expected to ensure that adequate water and sewerage infrastructure is present or can be provided in order to meet future needs without compromising the quality and supply of services for existing users.

Planning permission will only be granted for developments which increase the demand for offsite water and sewerage infrastructure where:

  • sufficient capacity already exists, or
  • extra capacity can be provided in time to serve the development.

When there is a water or sewerage capacity problem and there are no programmed off-site infrastructure improvements, planning permission will only be granted if the developer funds, under the relevant water supply legislation, appropriate infrastructure improvements which should be completed prior to occupation.
