TCA12 Transportation Measures
The mix of town centre development will be aimed at reducing the need to travel and each development site will be required to bring forward proposals that are complementary to the Transport Strategy. The emphasis will be on measures to support sustainable forms of transport.
Proposals will be brought forward at the following junctions, and where necessary land will be safeguarded, to maximise their capacity and manage traffic flows in order to achieve greater pedestrian priority and easier bus, cycle and disabled access in the High Street:
- Vale Road/High Street, including the widening of Vale Road;
- Bordyke/High Street;
- Vale Road/Vale Rise;
- Pembury Road/Quarry Hill Road Junction.
Throughout the Central Area the existing signing strategy will be reviewed in order to encourage traffic to use alternative routes to the High Street.
Land for the completion of the Lansdowne Road Link will be safeguarded to enable the introduction of greater pedestrian priority and environmental enhancements in Bank Street and Castle Street.
