CS 12 Sustainable Economic Development
The sustainable growth of the District’s economy will be supported through the provision of a flexible supply of land to meet the varying needs of the economic sectors by:
- Safeguarding and recycling accessible and well located industrial and commercial sites which will be identified through the Development Management Development Plan Document.
- Encouraging, where appropriate, mixed use development.
- Supporting development which maintains and enhances Leatherhead’s role as a desirable location for knowledge based companies.
- Supporting development which maintains and enhances Dorking’s role as a town with a strong service sector.
- Supporting a diverse and sustainable rural economy in accordance with Planning Policy Statement 7 - ‘Sustainable Development in Rural Areas’.
- Working with partners and supporting initiatives and development which assists in improving the skills base of local residents especially in those localities where there is a significant disparity in the skills of residents and the types of local job opportunities available.
- Supporting development of the District’s strengths as a knowledge based local economy and encouraging the establishment of new companies especially those at the leading edge of new sectoral employment opportunities such as sustainable development.
- Making provision for accommodation for visitors to the District, especially in Dorking and Leatherhead, both in terms of business trips and tourism related visits.
