The role of Dorking town centre as the focus of the historic market town will be consolidated and enhanced through measures which increase its attraction for shopping, business, leisure, cultural and recreational activities taking into account:

  • The town centre’s capacity to accommodate change and its particular characteristics , including its appearance and architectural quality, scale, linear road layout and setting in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
  • The need to sustain the town’s vitality and viability over the next twenty years.
