DMS 7 Consultation with the Environment Agency

The Environment Agency should be consulted on all developments adjacent to watercourses, as their consent is required for any works within 16m from the landward side of the River Thames flood defences and 8m from fluvial watercourses including the River Wandle and Beverley Brook.

The Environment Agency should be consulted for any development that could affect flood defence infrastructure.

Setting back developments from river banks and existing flood defence infrastructure, where there are opportunities to do so, will be encouraged.

Developments should take into account the requirements of the Thames Estuary 2100 (TE2100) Plan in regards to the implementation of current and future improvements to the River Thames tidal flood defences in order to effectively manage tidal flood risk over the plan period.
